Murchison Falls National Park is Uganda largest protected area and one of its most spectacular. Whether you are a first-time safari-goer or a seasoned wildlife traveller, Murchison delivers experiences that are hard to match anywhere on the continent.
The Falls Themselves
The Victoria Nile forces its entire volume through a rocky gap just 7 metres wide before plunging 43 metres into a churning pool below. Standing at the top of the falls with spray soaking your clothes while hippos wallow beneath you is one of Uganda defining travel moments.
Best Game Drive Circuits
The northern bank delivers the most reliable big-game sightings. Lions are frequently seen near Pakuba, while elephants gather in huge herds along the Albert Nile in the dry season. Rothschild giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda kob, and oribi round out the cast.
The Nile Boat Cruise
A three-hour boat cruise from Paraa to the base of the falls is non-negotiable. Hippo pods, Nile crocodiles, and an extraordinary concentration of waterbirds line the banks the entire way.
