When Is the Best Time to Visit Uganda for a Safari?

Wagwan Tours Uganda April 3, 2025 Travel Tips

One of the most common questions we receive at Wagwan Tours Uganda is: when should I go? The honest answer is that Uganda equatorial climate means wildlife is present and active every month of the year. But the dry seasons genuinely do deliver better conditions for most activities.

The Two Dry Seasons

December to February is the short dry season — warm, sunny, and ideal for game drives and boat cruises. June to September is the long dry season and generally the most popular time to visit. Tracks are firm, vegetation is lower, and wildlife concentrates around permanent water sources.

Gorilla Trekking Year-Round

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest operates every day of the year, but the dry seasons make the forest trails significantly easier to navigate. The wet season can bring extraordinary forest atmosphere and lower prices.

Murchison Falls and Kidepo

Both Murchison Falls and Kidepo Valley are at their best from December to February and June to September, when the valleys teem with game.

Value Season

March to May offers the lowest prices, far fewer tourists, and lush green landscapes that make for stunning photography — if you do not mind occasional afternoon showers.
