Masindi, Uganda
Combine Uganda's most iconic waterfall with a peaceful lakeside finale on this 7-day adventure. Witness the full force of the Victoria Nile as it thunders through a narrow gorge at Murchison Falls, cruise Africa's most hippo-dense waterway, then unwind at Lake Mburo — one of the few Ugandan parks where you can walk freely among zebra, impala, and eland.
Your day-by-day journey from arrival to departure.
Land at Entebbe and meet your guide. Drive northwest through Kampala and Hoima, passing through sugarcane and banana plantations. Arrive in Masindi — the gateway to Murchison Falls NP. Dinner and overnight: Masindi hotel.
After breakfast, cross into the park via Tangi Gate. Stop at the Royal Mile — a forest stretch famous for chimpanzees and hornbills. Afternoon game drive across the savanna; keep eyes open for elephant, giraffe, and lion. Overnight: Nile-side lodge.
Dawn game drive catching predators returning from the night hunt. After brunch, board a launch at Paraa for the iconic boat cruise up the Nile to the foot of Murchison Falls. Short hike to the top viewing point. Sundowner on the bank. Overnight: Nile-side lodge.
Spend the full day on the vast northern game circuit — lion prides, Jackson's hartebeest, waterbuck, and oribi. Picnic lunch in acacia shade. Visit the Nile delta where the river fans into Lake Albert — exceptional for shoebill and goliath herons. Overnight: Nile-side lodge.
Depart south after an early breakfast, passing through Kampala. Arrive at Lake Mburo NP by mid-afternoon. Check in at the lakeside camp and take an evening guided walk at dusk as zebra return to the lake and the sky turns amber. Overnight: Lake Mburo tented camp.
Morning boat trip spotting hippo pods, monitor lizards, and the rare shoebill. After lunch, three-hour walking safari through acacia woodland and swamp margins. Evening sundowner on the hilltop platform. Overnight: Lake Mburo tented camp.
Sunrise walking safari, then a big breakfast. Drive east to Entebbe (approx. 4 hours), stopping for a final lunch beside Lake Victoria. Transfer to Entebbe International Airport.
Absolutely. The boat cruise takes you to the foot of the falls, and there is a short hike to the top of the gorge for a breathtaking view of the full drop.
Lake Mburo is the only place in Uganda where you can walk in the wild without entering a gorilla/chimp forest. It also has large herds of zebra and impala.
A guided kayak session on Lake Mburo is available as an optional add-on. The standard package uses the motorised park boat.
